  1. For the second part, why do you just get rid of gravity all together? And why don't you add/subtract the delta from equilibrium it's displaced from the function y?

    1. It is inappropriate to say that I got rid of gravity at all, but I did consider that the initial stretch (and compression) of the springs will offset the force due to gravity. I didn't explicitly show that step (although I probably should have), but I was using the idea of "subtracting delta" to get from the first free body diagram to the second. I outline this process specifically in the equilibrium video.
